Gospel of Mark

The Action Packed Gospel of Mark

The Book

The gospel of Mark was written to the persecuted Christians residing in Rome. Its writer focuses on the humble servant, Jesus Christ. While placed as the second book in the New Testament, Mark was the first book penned. Reading this gospel will fill the reader with awe and is sure to encourage those who have suffered or are suffering for their faith. Mark doesn’t hold back with the details of the miracles that surrounded Jesus everywhere He went!

About the Writer of the Gospel of Matthew

While the book itself does not have a name on it, the early church and theologians concur on John Mark as the writer. The first mention of John (who is called Mark) is in Acts when Peter is released from prison.  Acts 12:11-16

Peter pays his first visit to the home where prayer is being lifted to heaven for him. This home belongs to John Mark’s mother, Mary.

It is likely that Mark comes from a wealthy family. His well-loved cousin, Barnabas, eventually invited him on an evangelistic tour with the persecutor turned preacher, Paul of Tarsus. Acts 12:25

Although John Mark had a rough patch, he became known as a sought-after minister. One of his mentors, the apostle Peter, called him a son and likely shared all the Jesus stories that led to the writing of the gospel of Mark 2 Timothy 4:11

Why Mark is a Favorite

While the other gospels are incredible! Mark does have some differences. Perhaps it is because he got to hear the stories and ask specific questions, he has more details when describing the miracles! Mark focuses on what Jesus did more than what was said. The book offers a balance that gives the reader a visual of what it must have been like to behold the humble servant of Nazatath working miracles and displaying great wisdom .

The sixteen chapters seem to end too soon leaving the reader ready to dive into Acts to see what happens next!
